Leaving a role within an organisation can be a pull to the heartstrings or a sigh of relief , or a mix of both , depending on the experience one had. For councillor shafiq of Slough it was a feeling of gratitude and appreciation towards his fellow cabinet members who made his time memorable and enjoyable. He had a great run of 15 years where he was able to delve into becoming a respected Mayor and played a big part of community and leisure initiatives. Together we spoke about how he wanted to express all the emotions and share them through his farewell speech (virtually off course).
a snippet of the speech;
“Working as a councillor has allowed me to serve in different positions and each role has been enjoyable as well as highly rewarding. I was extremely humbled to serve as Mayor of Slough, and was committed to making a difference and fulfilled these duties wholeheartedly. I sincerely worked hard towards making the community a better place , and I hope I have left a positive mark in the Slough community.There have been disagreements along the way, but that is inevitable in a place where we are presented with challenges of making tough decisions to help our community thrive. I have no hard feelings and apologise if I have done anything to hurt anyone . I am grateful for the invaluable experience I have had with the Labour Party.”
We wish councillor Shafiq the best of luck as he embraces his retirement and continues his journey in community service.
